Makeup Snobs
So this will be my first entry in the Rant category. It’s my blog, I’ll write what I want. I’m just letting you know that not everything in this blog will be facts only… you can have your opinions too… and I don’t care if you don’t like mine… and if I feel like writing a blog completely dedicated to my cat… then I will… that’s what the categories are for… click on the ones you’re interested in. Okay… on with the blog.
I get so sick and tired of the makeup snobs. The ones that are only buying the name on the product simply to make themselves feel better. Don’t get me wrong… I love my MAC, and my Make Up For Ever, and Urban Decay etc etc… but I’m sorry, if you’re gonna pay 30 bucks for something you can get that acts and does the EXACT same thing for 4 bucks… then you’re an idiot. I understand if you don’t know about the cheaper stuff, but I’m talking about the people that refuse to use it just because it’s not a high-end brand.
Then there are the people that will actually look down on people that don’t use or can’t afford all the high-end brands. Really? That’s even worse than throwing away your money to feel important, because in reality, no one cares what brand makeup you use. You’re probably the same person that makes sure to only carry your most expensive products for touch ups in that gaudy overpriced purse, because there’s no other way for people to even know what brand makeup you use… and most people probably don’t know the difference between the brands anyway.
Why? Because, most people don’t care about makeup period. And the ones that do, care about *their* makeup, not yours.
MAC snobs. Okay, I get it… People swear by MAC products… But, take a moment and realize, MAC isn’t even that high-end. It’s in the middle… so just because your entire collection is MAC, doesn’t make you better than anyone… and I’m sorry, but please stop referring to what kind of brush you use by a number… that goes out to the video tutorial gurus. I love watching you guys, but it’s a tapered blending brush, not a 224. 224 is a number.
Now, I understand differences in quality and that everything works differently for different people, but that’s just it. Just because it’s cheaper, doesn’t necessarily mean it will be bad. In fact, it might be better than a high-end version for you, or for me, or for anyone… it depends on the person and what exactly they’re looking for in a product.
So why can’t people buy things for the actual product instead of the name printed on the bottle/jar/whatever? Why not find more uses for something you already have instead of wasting money and creating more waste to be eventually tossed into a landfill? Why not find a cheaper version just so you don’t look like a moron throwing away money and spend the money on something important (like Ramen)?

omg that is so true! There are girls that i went to high school with that would pull out the most expensive lipgloss they owned and put it on every 5 minutes in class just to show it off. And now they are doing it in elementary school! Because my sister doesn’t carry a 500 dollar purse, the girls look down on her. Sorry but some of us have bills to pay! lol These kids are getting worse and worse by generation. I’m only 20, and I’m noticing the girls my sister’s age and how crazy they are about buying only certain brands of clothes and getting 500 dollar purses. What do they need a damn Dolce and Gabana purse for? They’re in 1st grade! Geez! Sorry i’m like droning on…haha but yeah i completely agree with you about this!
Dear, perhaps they aren’t so snobbish after all. Maybe they aren’t aware of the same product being available for 4 “bucks” . Many tend to use and prefer what they learned with. Some enjoy the long lasting quality and yes, indeed some do prefer brands. So what?
Much the way some only eat KRAFT macaroni and not Generic Macaroni, some people DO notice a difference. I mean, have you eaten generic macaroni lately?
Being so angry about what others use is as biased as some who act superior because you don’t use it. Same thing. Different website.
If you want to make a mark , then make a mark, but being hostile over differences makes you as shallow as the ones you claim to be so annoyed with.
Ask yourself why it bothers you so much what others do. ,Last time I checked, anarchists did their own thing and didn’t put their efforts into worrying about others. It reeks of insecurity and yes, jealousy. Perhaps making a positive community will attract more traffic? After all, with a bunch of negative nellies running around, I can only imagine how many fights will eventually make this adventure a total waste of time.
Good Luck. I hope you find a more positive niche.
If you had taken the time to really read the blog, you would have understood that my annoyance lies within people buying labels instead of products and then turning around and making others feel bad if they don’t use the same.
And my blog completely waived those who don’t know any better, don’t have access to other products, or any normal person in general… because they aren’t the ones buying a label just because they think the brand makes them a better person than others.
This is a positive niche… I make attempts to surround myself with people who make it a positive niche… and stay away from those that don’t… but sometimes that’s impossible and then it actually affects me.
I’m not hostile… I’m just making a point that people focusing on the wrong aspects of beauty products (names and prices) ruins it for others… just because it’s in rant form, doesn’t mean I’m angry… But then again, I didn’t expect everyone to like what I say, and I don’t really care if they don’t… it would be awesome though if people would actually understand what I’m saying before implying I meant something else… I hate clarifying.
And claiming people that state an opinion are jealous, I’ve found usually is only said by someone trying to feel better than that person… I didn’t just write a blog saying “I hate people that only use expensive makeup”… I had a point.. you just didn’t get it.
My apologies. I am sure that I am the only soul who ever deduced that the tone, terminology and overall point of view was quite negative. Gee honey, It’s makeup. Is makeup rant-worthy?
Let’s make it simpler. If you were that secure, you wouldn’t take time to post such things and worry about what anyone else is doing. I mean, who CARES? Are you more concerned with being right or being happy?
Never mind, your response answered that question already.
As far as people ruining it for others, I don’t quite equate the mentality of your cosmetic experience being in shambles if I choose to use an ELF blending brush or a MAC 222. No logic there.
Try caring more about your makeup and tools and technique and less about others’ and you will have less to rant about. Perhaps not so many people who pass through will get a negative first impression because they “don’t get it”. Makes the whole process more fun when you aren’t looking for things to get into a hypocritical tizzy about and spreading it around to others.
Behavior breeds behavior.
Not caring what others think? Or not caring about what others who disagree think? If you didn’t care, you would have never posted the initial post. You very much care, and you should. You should care more about your own image and credibility and less about what brush others use. Apparently, your priorities are confused. Don’t be angry that your post was read and interpreted correctly. In this instance, I am not a 13 year old fan who is eager to jump up and down and tell you you are right. You are not. You are wasting your own time and energy and putting out a bad vibe that feeds others. Not a wise thing to do with so many internet communities to choose from. If you don’t care what others think, why have a forum?
Oh, I don’t know why I waste time. When you are all grown up you will understand.
@OVE… for someone who is “all grown up” as opposed to me, you sure feel a need to resort to name calling fairly often in your posts.
I’m not a hypocrite, hostile, jealous, insecure, angry, biased, or illogical… you’re taking one thing I say and applying it to something else entirely to try and make me sound the way you want me to sound… my makeup life isn’t going to fall into shambles because of what brush someone uses… my blurb on brushes was addressing the lack of guru’s explaining what the brushes are, just saying the number, and expecting the kiddies that watch them to understand exactly what that is… I could care less what brush someone uses, and others don’t care either, as I blatantly pointed out in my post… had you read it.
As well as the fact that I addressed people that don’t know better right after mentioning the 4 “buck” product… if you had read past that sentence… and care to clarify why you put “bucks” in quotes? Sorry if you don’t like my vocabulary, I type the way I speak… I don’t say “dollar-sign four decimal zero zero” and I’m not trying to impress anyone.
I really don’t care what people think about what I have to say… if I want to say it I will… if they agree, that’s cool… if they don’t, that’s cool… my life doesn’t change either way.
I encourage anyone to respond to my posts, whether they agree or disagree… but I’m not going to just ignore when someone is going to spew an opinion and not take the time to know what their opinion is even on… nor am I going to ignore someone trying to tell others that I mean something I don’t. I try to be very clear in what I say…. I also despise repeating myself.
And I apologize about my first reply.. I was suffering from major fatigue and tend to ramble about nothing… I’m actually surprised it was as short as it was and I didn’t go off talking about what my cat did that day…
And last time *I* checked, anarchy has to do with laws, not ignoring everyone in the world… anarchist is different than hermit… check the dictionary… we’re still allowed to have an opinion, not like what someone does, disagree, AND actually tell the world… in fact it usually goes with the territory… if they didn’t care about what others do then they wouldn’t have anything to protest, now would they?
If you don’t agree with what I say, that’s awesome… but please take the time to understand what I said before creating a rant of your own dear… also realize that I’m not going to NOT post just because someone might think it was a waste of time… I have a lot of time on my hands, and it’s my choice to utilize it in anyway I feel… no one forced you to read my blog.
But, I do want to thank you… a few friends and I have gotten a kick out of your response, which made the original post completely worth it.
Go find something wrong with my other posts, please. (that’s in all sincerity)… I’ve gotten bored of clarifying this blog twice now… but I’m having fun reading your responses… especially the parts where you appear to think you know me…
Actually, wait a day… Just for you I’ll explain a bit about me… I have a swatch post I want to make first though from my MAC/Sephora trip yesterday.
I’m agree with you, there are many bloggers that only show their recent expensive stuff, instead of recommend a product. Of course expensive products will be better than cheapers ones in most cases, but they’re always really necessary? There’s no cheaper alternative for anyone?
Now this people describes her skin tones in MAC numbers too, so what??
You can expend all of your money in lots of shadows, glosses, make-up… but if you are ugly as a pain, you can’t hide it whith all of these. hehehe a bit ironic here, but i mean, i’m glad other people realized that there’s certain “snobish” make-up “experts”.
And, (and then i finish ^_^) nobody needs lots, i say LOTS, of boxes full of the entire collection of any make-up brand, is this a new kind of sindrome? massive acumulation of expensive mak-up stuff…
lol haha that’s funny! I think it’s not just a syndrome, but a full blown addiction like drug addiction or alcoholism!
The main thing that I don’t like about Makeup Snobs is that they put others down when they can’t afford or don’t buy the expensive, namebrand products. But this doesn’t just go for makeup- it goes for clothes, bags, jewelry, etc. I just hated the fact that if you wanted to be cool in highschool, you had to buy abercrombie and fitch or hollister, and that’s it. Or people would make fun of your clothes- even though they looked the same as the A&F or Hollister stuff. Because they only care about the name… not the quality of the clothes or products.
Hey there, I just joined this site but I was watching your videos on Youtube. I love your videos, you always use amazings pigments.
But to the topic at hand, I agree with you 100%. When I make my vlogs I always make a point to say that the colors and products I use, are bought from CVS or Target. The only expensive pigments I own I bought while I was here in South Korea and they weren’t that expensive when you consider the exchange rate. I believe in using what works for you and also these ‘no-name’ brands people refuse to use, can really work for you if you know the tips and tricks to MAKE them work. That’s just what I live by. Make-up snobs look down on me because I use NYC, L’oreal and even Wet’n'Wild. But that’s because it DOES work for me and my complexion. Some of that high end stuff actually stresses my overly sensitive skin. So in the end, it’s really about what works for you…literally.
Great blog!
I just took a workshop through last looks makeup academy to get a my makeup artist certification. While there I was taught by an emmy award winning artist Ashley Peterson. She was amazing! She shared what she keeps in her kit. It was so cool to see that she kept as a staple certain over the counter products like; revlon lipstick, cetaphyl lotion cleanser, kohl eyeliner in the number 666. She has a lot of goody bags to give to her clients for touch up after she works on them. The goody bags carry inexpensive makeup that she would use on their face for color correction, lipstick touch up, and a powder puff loaded with the powder. As for brushes, I used to be so impressed with the whole number thing when I first started to watch the guru vids. “and I am using a number blah blah blah to cut the crease line” I’d be like “oooooh they are so smart, they must be pro’s cause they know the number” Now I just think that I’d much rather know if it is a crease brush or a blending brush. All brush lines have the same brush names. Liner brush, bukki brush ect. I totally got what you where trying to say. Plus you are supposed to be being an anarchist, so you are supposed to rant against the established order of things. Am I right? I am. So, If you have a strong opinion, cool, share it. If people oppose your opinion, then they can have there time to gripe back. The whole “they just don’t get it” quotient just makes the responses funnier. I doubt I will always agree with you, but I think it is cool that you know yourself and are strong enough to share what you think. There is a whole generation of makeup guru watchers that are being brain washed into thinking that the way the gurus do it the only and best way. Oh well.
